Subject: Message to Switzerland

Hi,

My name is Elena, I’m 32 years old and I live in a province in Russia. I work in library and I can use computer after my work when possible. I finded your address in internet and I decided to write you this letter.

I have a 8 years daughter Angelina, her father left us and we live with my mother.

Due to financial crisis my mother unexpected lost job and our situation became very difficult.

The prices for gas and electricity is very high in our region and we cannot use it to heat our home anymore.

The winter is coming and weather becoming colder each day. We are very afraid and we don’t know what to do.

The only possibility for us to heat our home is to use a portable oven which work with burning wood. We have many wood in our region and this oven will heat our home all winter for minimal charges.

Unfortunately, we cannot buy this oven in our local market because it cost equivalent of 191 Euro and very expensive for us.

If you have any old portable wood burning oven and in case you don’t use it  anymore, we will be very grateful to you if you can donate it to us and organize transport of this oven to our home address:

Elena Galitsyna,
Kirova Str. 25-54
Kaluga 248000
Russia

We are located in central part of Russia, 180km from Moscow.

I will be waiting for your answer.

>From all my heart I wish you a Merry Christmas. I wish that the New 2010 Year will bring you hapiness and all your dreams come true!

Elena and my family.

Debrett’s – the modern authority on etiquette and manners – has provided a list of top etiquette tips to help students get it right:

1.    Introduce yourself to strangers at parties. Everyone is in the same boat, so don’t worry about making the first move.

2.    Listen to what other people tell you, and ask questions. Conversation is likely to be about A-level results, school, courses and gap years.

3.    Be social. Operate an open door policy when you move into your halls.

4.    Be a joiner. Sign up to societies and clubs, but don’t go mad – build on your existing interests and expand your horizons.

5.    While it’s good to be open to new experiences, exercise a little caution. You may end up doing something in freshers’ week that will haunt you for the next three years.

6.    Watch your budget. Don’t blow the entire term’s allowance on overindulging in week one.

7.    Away from parental and school supervision, hormones will run high. Make sure you’re not the talk of the campus.

8.    The pints may be cheap and you’ll inevitably overindulge, but keep your wits about you.

The Real IRA has said today that it is ‘angered and offended’ that someone who is not the Real IRA has bagged the name on social networking site Twitter. Many celebrities use the word ‘Real’ in front of their name to differentiate from imposters but it would seem that the party using the username ‘Real IRA’ is not the breakaway terrorist cell of that name.
